The Louisiana Coagulation Laboratory is a diagnostic reference Lab started by Gloria B. Coker, M.D. APMC, Pathologist/Consultant in 1992 in the heart of old Covington, Louisiana. It was a time when advanced testing for clotting and bleeding disorders was in its infancy. She decided to provide a place where she could identify disorders and thereby assist doctors with the fitting management of patients with bleeding or clotting disorders. Her goal was to provide the community and region with a facility to provide comprehensive specialized coagulation testing, assessments, and consultation. In 1996 as LCL grew the quaint, historical building in which it took shape became too small, and LCL moved to its present location off Highway 190, a progressive area of Covington, Louisiana.
The Louisiana Coagulation Laboratory offers services to hospitals and medical facilities, which contact us to perform the coagulation procedures that are not done in-house. There are only a few laboratories in the nation which provide these complex specialized coagulation tests and evaluation. We assess both, inherited and acquired, bleeding and clotting disorders, with state of the art instruments and procedures. We also provide quality control analysis and technical support services. We can test reagent and evaluate test kits.
The Louisiana Coagulation laboratory is CAP and CLIA certified.
Our membership in NASCOLA includes participation in the international external proficiency program administered by ECAT. Hematology fellows from the LSU and Tulane University medical systems spend part of their rotation training in our lab. At LCL we pride ourselves on our quick turnaround time for testing and our commitment to provide the information needed to manage patient care.
